Welcome to the members page of the Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns.

Volunteers needed

Interested in becoming a Literacy Volunteer? The first step is to enroll in a tutor training workshop held on six Saturday mornings in the spring or fall. Upon completing the workshop, you will be matched with a student from our waiting list. You will be able to tutor that student in our well-equipped tutoring center at the Warner Library, usually for two hours each week.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please fill out our volunteer application form, or stop by the Warner Library or phone it at 914-488-4250 to request an information packet.

BEST Plus Testing

Literacy Volunteers uses the BEST Plus Oral English Proficiency test to measure the English proficiency of students. The test should be administered shortly after a student enters the ESL tutoring program, and at least once a year afterwards. This enables us to evaluate student needs and track student progress.  Please call 914-488-4250 or email using the subject line "BEST Plus Testing" to set up an appointment to have your student tested.
