What information is collected

In general, you can visit this Web Site without telling us who you are and without providing any personal information about yourself. Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns collects some personal information that is only voluntarily submitted, via email or on our Contact page, on our Volunteer application from, on our Student application from, and on our Newsletter subscription page.

Students and tutors may also voluntarily submit stories for inclusion in The Student News and the Newsletter of the organization, published quarterly each year.

Usage tracking and cookies

Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns tracks user traffic patterns throughout our site. However, we do not correlate this information with data about individual users. LVT breaks down overall usage statistics according to a user's domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string (information contained in every user's browser).

As part of our approach to providing access to personalized pages on our web site, LVT uses cookies to store and sometimes track information about you. The information is also used to compile in aggregate our Annual Affiliate Report to Proliteracy America, the umbrella organization of Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns.

Essays and stories of interest submitted by students and LVT members are reviewed and may be used in The Student News and the Newsletter of the organization. If you do not wish your name to appear along with the story, you may indicate so with your submission.

By submitting a story you indicate that you are the author of the story and grant us the right to publish it in print and electronically on this web site.

Your personal information is confidential and not disseminated in any way. We will never share your personal information with anyone outside Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns or ProLiteracy America.

Your opt-out choices

Anyone not wishing to receive information from Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns can send an email to our privacy email address, privacy@lvtarrytown.org, for immediate removal from all mailings, both electronic and conventional.
