Spring 2008 ESOL Tutor Training Workshop

A workshop to train volunteer tutors of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) will be offered by Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns beginning Saturday, March 1, from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 noon at the Warner Library in Tarrytown. Additional sessions will meet on March 8, 15 and 29, and April 5 and 12. The workshop leader will be Mary Jane Driscoll.

Trainees should be 19 or older. It is not necessary to speak another language or to have prior teaching experience. Upon completion of the workshop, the trained tutor accepts an adult student from the waiting list, and teaches that person on a one-to-one basis. A commitment of two hours a week for a year (minus vacations, etc.) is expected.

To register, please fill out our volunteer application form, stop by the Warner Library or call (914) 631-7734. A materials fee of $12.50 is collected at the first meeting. There are no further expenses or dues.
