Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns has helped hundreds of residents in our community to learn to read and write and speak English.  Our focus has always been on one to one tutoring to help each learner reach their goals.  Our volunteers give their time, but we also need to supply them with training and materials to help our learners.

100% of your gift to Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns will help us to train more tutors, provide them with materials to serve more learners and help us maintain our accreditation with ProLiteracy. Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns meets the requirements of Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) and is exempt from federal income tax as a charitable organization.

There is a way for individuals who are over 70 ½ years old to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution from their IRA account directly to Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns.  There are some notable advantages for the taxpayer in doing so:

The contributed amount goes toward satisfying the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the account.  The taxpayer effectively gets the tax benefit of a contribution even if he or she is using the larger standard deduction, because this charitable distribution is not taxable even though it reduces the RMD.

Please contact your financial advisor for more information on how to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution to Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns, Inc.
