About Us
Literacy Volunteers of the Tarrytowns (LVT) is a group of men and women helping adults in the Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow community who want to learn to understand, speak, read, and write English. Because of the large number of applications from prospective students, our organization is always in need of increased membership. Persons in the community interested in performing worthwhile community service are urged to consider joining LVT.
Founded in 1974, LVT is an accredited member of ProLiteracy America and a member of Literacy New York. LVT is sponsored by the Warner Library, which generously provides space for tutoring, training workshops, and other programs. The LVT membership is one of the few remaining all-volunteer organizations of its type in New York State. Its board of directors is elected by the membership every two years.
To join LVT or to request additional information, please complete our volunteer application form, or stop by the Warner Library or phone it at (914) 631-7734 for an information packet.
